Risk

The map you see above is the risk map.
Notice that it is divided into countries and that
the countries are separated into continents by color

The object is to own all 42 countries by defeating
your opponents in battle.

The text below is divided into two sections:
CONNECTING and GAME PLAY.
clicking on the above map will start the game.

CONNECTING

PLAYING THE GAME

Placing armies.

At the start of the game, the countries are randomly assigned
to players. Play begins by placing starting armies on your
countries. This requires careful planning, because it can
greatly affect the course of the game. The number of armies
you start with is determined as follows:

2 players - 40 armies each
3 players - 35 armies each
4 players - 30 armies each
5 players - 25 armies each
6 players - 20 armies each

Players take turns placing 3 armies per turn till all armies are
placed. The armies need not be placed on the same country (change
the number in the prompt window) but you must place all three unless
you don't have that many left. Once all the armies are placed, each
country must have at least one army occupying it. Play then begins.

Taking your turn.

Turns consis of three steps:
1. Getting and Placing new armies.
2. Attacking.
3. Fortifying.

1. Getting and Placing new armies.

At the beginning of each turn, including the first, you recieve additional
armies. You may immediately place these armies onto any one or more of
your territories. You recieve armies according to the number of countries
you occupy; the number of continents you control; and the number of matched
sets of risk cards you trade in.

Territories: The number of armies you recieve is the number of countries
you currently occupy divided by 3. You always recieve at least 3 armies,
even if you occupy fewer than 9 countries.

Continents: You receive armies for each continent you control. To control
a continent, you must occupy all its countries. Armies are given as follows:
N. America - 5 armies
S. America - 2 armies
Africa - 3 armies
Asia - 7 armies
Europe - 5 armies
Austrailia - 2 armies

Cards: The risk cards you earn at the end of each turn can be traded in
for armies. You can take one card at the end of your turn if you captured
a country during that turn. At the beginning of a turn you may trade them
in if you either have 3 different cards or 3 alike cards. Wild cards count
as anything. You recieve armies based on the following formula:
The first set traded in recieves 4 armies.
The second set recieves 6 armies.
third - 8 armies
fourth- 10 armies
fifth- 12 armies
sixth- 15 armies
After the sixth set traded in, the value of the sets increase by 5. The
third set refers to the third set traded in by anyone in the game. Once
you are holding 5 cards, you must trade in at the start of your turn.

2. Attacking

The object of an attack is to take the country by defeating all the enemy
armies occupying it. Attacks are conducted from one country into another
You may only attack adjacent territories, and those connected by dashed
lines like kamchakta and alaska. You must always leave at least one army
behind to hold the country you are attacking from. To attack, first click
on the country you are attacking from, then select the country you're
attacking. You will then be prompted to roll dice. The attacker can roll
up to 3 dice, but you must have at least one more army in the attacking
country than the number of dice you roll. The defender can roll up to 2
dice, to roll 2 dice he must have 2 or more armies in the country under
attack.

To decide a battle, compare the highest die that each rolled. If your
die is higher, the defender looses an army. If the defender's die is
higher or equal to yours, you loose an army. If each has rolled more
than one die, the next highest dice are compared in the same manner.

As soon as the last defender's army is destroyed, you must move at least
as many armies as the number of dice you last rolled into the conquered
country. You may move as many as you wish, but must leave at least one
in the attacking country. You may end your turn at any time, if you
conquered a country, you will automatically be given a card. If you
eliminate a player, you take his cards. If you then hold 5 or more cards
you must trade them immediately and place the new armies.

3. Fortifying your position

At the end of your turn, you may move as many armies as you like from
one (and only one) of your country into an adjacent country. You must
leave at least one army in the source country.
