The purpose of this activity is to test and increase your knowledge of the states and capitals of the United States of America.
Learn About the States
When you click on the map of the United States at the top of the page, you will be able to learn about the states at your own pace by clicking on states that interest you.
As you move your mouse over the map of the United States, you will see larger images of the states and their names in the State Pictures window to the right. To learn more about a state, put your mouse over that state so that it is visible in the State Pictures window and click the left mouse button.
When you click on a state, a window will appear with more information about the state. Here you can learn about the state's capital name, bordering states, agriculture, industry, nickname, motto, origin of state's name, and the topography. Click on the close window button at the bottom of this window to return to the map of the United States.
Click on the flag of the United States in the upper-right corner to log into the game and test what you have learned. The game tests your knowledge of the location of the states and the names of their capitals.
Play the Game
The game tests your knowledge of the location of the states and the names of their capitals. Each time you play the game, the text box will ask you to find the states in a random order.
To play the game, you can either create a new account, sign in if you already have an account, or play as a guest. Once you have logged in, you can start playing!
The text box at the top of the screen will ask you to find a state. As you move your mouse over the map of the United States, you will see larger images of the states in the State Pictures window to the right. To make a guess, put your mouse over the state so that it is visible in the State Pictures window and click the left mouse button.
If you guess the wrong state, the text box will ask you to try again. Keep making guesses by clicking on states until you guess the correct one. For help finding the right state, click on the Hint button.
Once you find the correct state, the bonus question window will appear asking you to guess the capital of the state. You will get one chance to guess the capital of the state by clicking on it. The text box will tell you whether or not you guessed the correct capital. If you guessed incorrectly, it will tell you the right answer.
The text box will continue asking you to find states until you have found all 50 of them. Then, the scores window will appear showing you how well you did finding the states and guessing the capitals.
You can view your scores at any time during the game by clicking on the View Scores button. To stop the music, click on the Stop Music button, which will turn into a button that says Start Music. If you stop the music, you can start it again by clicking on the Start Music button. Restart your game by clicking on the Start Over button. To exit the game at any time, click on the Log Off button.
