Lakota (1993-2004) was a mixed-breed (our best guess is Alaskan Malamute, German Shephard, and maybe some Collie) male. He was mostly black, with tan face and feet. His very long, bushy fur and masked face made him look remarkably like a wolf. He weighed about 135 pounds in his prime, and when standing on his hind legs could put his paws easily on my shoulders (I'm 6' tall) - standing on all-fours he could comfortably rest his chin on the dining room table (you can well imagine the problems this caused!).
The name Lakota means "friend" in Sioux, a remarkably appropriate name for this wonderful companion. He is greatly missed...
